Issues & Top Concerns

The position of Alderman / Alderwoman is very important to you as a Franklin resident, representing your interests on a daily basis at the city level. While the list of concerns and issues facing our community is extensive, following are a few that are being focused on currently:
Responsible Development
Growth With Vision, Not Just Expansion. Franklin is growing - growth brings opportunity, but only if it’s guided by a clear vision. One of our biggest challenges is making sure development is intentional, transparent, and aligned with the character of our city. Residents deserve to know what’s being built, why it’s being built, and how it benefits them.
How I would approach it:
- Prioritize smart growth that enhances, not replaces, what makes Franklin unique.
- Strengthen communication between the city and residents so people aren’t finding out about decisions after they’re made.
- Require clear impact studies and long-term planning so we don’t sacrifice infrastructure, green space, or school capacity in the process.
Development should never be reactive. It should be responsible, informed, and community-driven.
The City Budget

Balancing Needs With Practicality. Every dollar the city spends is a taxpayer’s dollar. With rising costs across the board, the budget must be managed carefully, meeting essential needs while protecting homeowners from unnecessary financial burden.
How I would approach it:
- Take a needs-first approach, distinguishing what is essential versus what is simply “nice to have.”
- Increase budget transparency so residents understand where tax dollars go, and can weigh in on priorities.
- Explore grants and partnerships to reduce the burden on taxpayers while still moving forward on key projects.
I believe a sustainable budget is one that supports families, protects property values, and plans ahead, not one that puts pressure on residents today just to solve problems tomorrow.
